Pianist Anna Tilbrook, tenor James Gilchrist, the Sacconi Quartet and friends join the BBC at the University of Hull’s Middleton Hall for a Big Chamber Weekend - four concerts celebrating the city’s musical, cultural and political heritage. The four concerts will be presented by Petroc Trelawny and broadcast on Radio 3 in October.
The second concert is a nod to one of Hull’s most famous sons, William Wilberforce – missionary, MP and slavery abolitionist, and includes music by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor and the Chevalier de Saint-Georges alongside Beethoven’s tour-de-force “Storm” Quintet.
We are delighted to welcome Professor John Oldfield will provide a lecture on Wilberforce from the University of Hull who will provide a pre-concert lecture on Wilberforce entitled: ‘William Wilberforce at home and abroad’.
