Pianist Anna Tilbrook, tenor James Gilchrist, the Sacconi Quartet and friends join the BBC at the University of Hull’s Middleton Hall for a Big Chamber Weekend - four concerts celebrating the city’s musical, cultural and political heritage. The four concerts will be presented by Petroc Trelawny and broadcast on Radio 3 in October.
The first concert celebrates writers old and new, with music by Purcell, Britten, Tippett, Vaughan Williams and Rebecca Clarke alongside the world premiere of a new work by David Bednall – settings of words by the Hull-born poet Andrew Marvell.
We are delighted to welcome Dr Stewart Mottram from the University of Hull English department who will provide a pre-concert lecture on Andrew Marvel entitled 'Marvell’s mower poems’.
