We are delighted to open our spring 2017 season with this illustrious duo. As part of their glowing international careers, Fenella teaches violin to many of our students, and Libby has regularly supported our students as accompanist to their exams for a number of years, so they are ideal artists to open this quarter’s city-wide programme of events themed around ‘Made in Hull’.
This programme has been designed especially for our Once Contemporary, Always Contemporary series. Fenella herself commissioned ‘5 Pieces after Sibelius’ to mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of Sibelius in 2015. The work is paired with the composer’s own ‘5 pieces’. To mark the City of Culture theme ‘Made in Hull’, Fenella and Libby will be joined on trumpet by our Performance Director, Dr Simon Desbruslais, for a performance of ‘Solar’ by Thomas Simaku based on Philip Larkin’s poem of the same title. The programme is rounded off by Pärt’s mesmerising Fratres.
