OpenCampus Tea-Time Talk - Creative Conversations
Speaker: Dr Sarah Jane Dickenson, Playwright researcher and Senior Lecturer, School of Arts, University of Hull.
Dr Dickenson will share the thinking behind a current project she is working on which focuses on the experience of women in rugby league in the North of England and beyond. Capturing, sharing and protecting this unique cultural heritage will ensure future generations involved in rugby league can recognise the input by women into the sport which is largely hidden at present. An innovative, multi layered interdisciplinary arts project which explores the relationships between playwriting, curating, autobiography and memory. The aim of this project is to engage marginalised groups who are in danger of losing their biography and to engender a sense of community so not only current biographies are shared but also evolving and future biographies in a creative community context.
Most importantly this project takes theatre and a variety of interactive workshops into communities and spaces with little history of engagement with the arts. Furthermore, it takes the community creative responses to the art work into theatre spaces, history centres and museums.
