Tom Townsend is a singer-songwriter whose finely-crafted material makes him one of the most exciting new talents in the UK right now. From punchy, New-Orleans-style grooves and Latin Jazz, to delicate, poignant acoustic songs, Tom’s work is a glorious result of his countless years in music, and effectively blends a diverse range of influences. His band for this gig includes academic staff and instrumental tutors from the university’s Music department.
FREE STUFF! Ticket-holders will be able to claim a free 10” vinyl copy of Tom’s recent single at the gig (subject to availability) by signing up to his mailing list at the merchandise stall.
Music students will also perform as the support acts. Firstly, ‘Knackered Maracas’ present their soulful, funky grooves, followed by Jack Parker performing a set of original, acoustic songs. (Jack’s most recent video has received strong support from Hull Daily Mail. Watch it online.)
During the afternoon, Tom and members of his band will present a workshop, discussing the songwriting and arranging process for his recent album, and how this worked in the context of the recording studio. The session will therefore be relevant to songwriters, producers and performers.
